Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing

The program encourages critical examination of current issues in mental health within national strategic directions for mental health care. Students gain understandings of how to use the self therapeutically, and the experiences of people who have mental illnesses, disorders and crises. Opportunities will be provided for students to undertake in-depth study into aspects of mental health and mental illness relevant to their specific area of practice. Students who successfully complete this program may transfer into the Master of Mental Health Nursing.

Entry requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife (currently registered to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - Nursing and Midwifery) and
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree (AQF Level 7 or equivalent), in any discipline or
  • Completion of a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (AQF Level 8 or equivalent) and
  • One year full-time equivalent work experience as a registered nurse or registered midwife within the last five years.
