Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours)

This is a prestigious program in medical research for high achieving students who are currently undertaking, or have completed, a relevant undergraduate medical degree. You will undertake research methodology training and carry out an independent research project on your selected topic, working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with individual guidance and academic counselling. The course offers a pathway to higher level research in medicine.

Structure

This course consists of a combination of coursework and research. In the coursework component you will develop advanced research skills in your area of focus. In the research component you will plan and execute a research project under the individual guidance of an academic supervisor.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: Currently enrolled in a medical degree and successfully completed one of the following with at least an equivalent Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60% (a Monash credit average): three or more years of the Direct entry Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University
  • two or more years of the Graduate entry Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University
  • currently enrolled in a national or international medical degree that is accredited by an agency that is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME, Accreditation - The World Federation for Medical Education) and have completed study which is the equivalent of at least 3 years of the Monash undergraduate entry Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine program with equivalent curriculum content, learning outcome and academic standards as determined by the Faculty
  • Graduated with a medical degree from a recognised medical program that is accredited by that is accredited by an agency that is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME, Accreditation - The World Federation for Medical Education)
  • with a WAM of at least 60%
  • at least two years of clinical training after graduation from their medical degree.
