Diploma of Sports Coaching and Development
The Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development is a one-year, full-time program delivered through Carlton College of Sport in partnership with La Trobe University combining academic study at IKON Park and La Trobe Bundoora with real-world industry exposure. Students build foundational skills in sport coaching, exercise programming, sports science, human bioscience and athlete development, preparing them to work directly with athletes, teams and participants. The course includes an optional 100-hour industry placement with Carlton Football Club and its partners, giving students hands-on experience alongside AFL/AFLW coaching, S&C and sport science staff. No ATAR is required for entry, and graduates are eligible to apply for ASCA Level 1 and Fitness Professional Accreditation on completion. Graduates can progress into the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science or Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management with recognition of prior learning opening pathways into roles such as Sport Coach, Athlete Development Officer and Strength & Conditioning Assistant.

Structure
Two Human Biosciences subjects (HBS1HBA & HBS1HBB) will be taught at La Trobe University Bundoora Campus, all other subjects will be taught at the Carlton College of Sport at Ikon Park.
Entry requirements
- Applicants with recent secondary education (within the last two years): VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL. Applicants who do not satisfy the stated prerequisites, or have not undertaken Higher Education studies within the last ten years, or do not meet the course requirements through the Work Recognition Program must sit the STAT Multiple Choice. All applicants are required to complete a Personal Statement in support of their application. Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites. This course uses the entire academic record as part of its selection considerations. Applicants who do not satisfy the stated prerequisites, or have not undertaken VET studies at Certificate IV level or above within the last five years, or do not meet the course requirements through the Work Recognition Program must sit the STAT Multiple Choice. Study Pathways
Upon completion, the course also provides a full year's credit towards the Bachelor of Sports Coaching and Development and may provide credit in other allied health and sport management courses.
