Your guide to Universities, TAFEs and studying in Brisbane and Queensland

Queensland has a wide range of universities, each offering a variety of specialties, including a Group of Eight institution. The Good Universities Guide can help understand the entry requirements, as well as provide information on a variety of TAFEs, private institutions and many other tertiary and vocational education providers.

Studying in Brisbane

Brisbane is a thriving arts hub with lots to offer in the way of recreation. The heart of the city is overflowing with boutiques, restaurants and nightspots, and the famous attractions of the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast are only a short drive away.

It is also known for its diverse course offerings, ranging from arts and business to human movement and hotel management, as well as local specialties such as marine biology and tropical science.

Many Queensland students relocate to Brisbane, which creates a lively, young scene with plenty to see and do. The sub-tropical climate means that most of the fun stuff happens outdoors, and you’ll certainly see people making the most of the warm weather year-round. A popular spot is the South Bank precinct on the Brisbane River, where you’ll find groups of people enjoying the precinct’s many cafés and restaurants; walking, cycling and exercising; relaxing in the Botanic Gardens; or having a swim at the man-made beach.

Studying in regional Queensland

Regional Queensland is traditionally known for its course offerings in fields like tourism and hospitality, marine science and tropical agriculture, but you will also find many courses in more traditional fields such as business, education, journalism, medicine and law. With a strong resource sector, courses in the engineering and technology field are readily available too.

Completing your degree in these areas can mean a smaller student population and possibly smaller class sizes, resulting in a more personal atmosphere. That said, rest assured that wherever you study in regional Queensland, you will be close to some spectacular natural wonders. Most campuses are within a short drive to golden beaches, including some of Australia’s most famous tourist hot spots.
